Me encantó.

I was on the internet about to buy my ticket to see The Kooks in Talence, my little village, when out of curiosity I started seeing what other artists were coming to Bordeaux and its surroundings. And I saw Camille was coming. Not even five minutes later my Kooks plans were cancelled. I have every record of this girl and in spite of the fact that I haven’t listened yet to her latest record I didn’t expect it to be any less great than the other ones were. Well, these last few days I have been near a nervous breakdown between classes, the internship, my guilt for believing I’m not managing well my classes nor the internship, besides my desires to go out and party like it’s still last year. On top of it, the cold is back and my body is complaining with a cold. So last week the concert seemed like another thing to do, another chore to look after more than the pleasure of seeing live an artist I like. I had the nerve to put my ticket on sale on three websites. I said to myself that destiny would choose for me and on Friday I received an SMS from someone who wanted to buy it. Since I had class when I received it I answered three hours later and the person texted me back saying he already had sorted it out. So, oh the punishment, I had to go to the concert. Thankfully!
I knew she was good, but she exceeded any expectation I had of her. She was accompanied just with a guitar, a violin and a bass, but it felt like a big orchestra behind her, but maybe it’s just that spectacular voice that blew me away. She can sing like a diva, like an opera singer, like a little girl, she makes weird noises, she barks, she meows, it was an impressive plethora of sounds. Since she sang five or six songs in a row without addressing the audience I thought that this was going to be a good concert, but a traditional one in when interacting with the public was concerned. But suddenly not only did she start speaking to us, but she even asked two volunteers to come dance to the stage while she sang. I say she asked, but in reality no one offered and she had to pick them out of the crowd. Later she came to the audience again but this time to ask for a “human applaud-o-meter”. She had the list of what she jokingly referred to her “greatest hits” and asked the audience to clap when she said the names of the songs. The guy she picked and who earned a good dose of flirting and jokes, had to measure the levels of applause and that way would be selected the songs to come. She danced, she made us sing, even bark and meow according to our zodiac sign; she made us stand up (we were at the Femina theatre, were you are passively sitting) and I think everyone was feeling the euphoria, the catharsis and the good time this girl was having onstage. It was so good that she even had to say goodbye two times because when everything was supposedly over and even though they were turning on the lights in the theatre people didn’t stop clapping and calling her. She had no other choice but to come and sing a last song.
It was an excellent first concert for her tour and I imagine the rest will be promising as well. And well, even I hadn’t read in the newspaper that this record was heavily influenced by the birth of her daughter, I think I would have figured that out in the concert. For starters, the first song started with a baby crying and she appeared onstage covering with a blanket a lamp hanging from the ceiling and that she put on her belly (by the way the lamp became an essential element in what was an excellent scenery). A lot of her songs have childish noises and the last song was very explicit “babies know better than us”. Anyway, you can tell she’s happy about being a mother and more than releasing an album about the transcendent experience of having a baby and how that fills the void she once tried to fill with temporary substitutes, I have a feeling she’s happy for the fact she now has someone else to play with. I loved the whole thing.

For this year Heritage days Bordeaux’s Grand Théâtre opened its doors so that visitors had the rare privilege of seeing it from the inside and had the opportunity to look at the exhibition “Divine inspirations, the art of costume”.

I was one of those poor mortals that had never seen its interiors, in spite of the fact that since I came here I want to see a show there, but so far the opportunity has not arisen. I have to go soon though, especially because this is the last year I will be able to benefit of the special prices for young people. Sadly here in France they don’t believe that age is just a number.

The building opened in 1780 and was designed by architect Victor Louis. It was financed by Duke of Richelieu, Armand Louis du Plessis, that after the only theatre in town caught fire he wanted to seize the opportunity to build a new one that at the same time left a permanent mark of his power. In order to imagine what it looked like at the time we have to visualize it far away from the rest of the city and with a huge fortress behind it: the Trompette castle.  DSC00136DSC03555320872_2268750512756_1068389354_2607783_793852245_nDSC03558309662_2268750872765_1068389354_2607784_2015647022_nDSC03560306830_2268751312776_1068389354_2607786_1184882374_n321170_2268751152772_1068389354_2607785_609259416_n316263_2268751872790_1068389354_2607787_1823638288_nDSC03561297931_2268757672935_1068389354_2607802_1765730412_n

The exhibit was organized by Bordeaux’s National Opera and its theme was the costume in the theatre. It presented almost three hundred costumes from many well-known plays or operas, as well as some playful sceneries so we could imagine the behind-the-scenes of actors and costume designers.294354_2268756032894_1068389354_2607798_738839145_n318387_2268752632809_1068389354_2607790_2052481712_n303871_2268756472905_1068389354_2607799_1615940843_n315057_2268753472830_1068389354_2607793_962014202_nDSC03563309683_2268756912916_1068389354_2607800_1166847593_n308942_2268754192848_1068389354_2607795_1978613967_n312968_2268753912841_1068389354_2607794_143669112_n

DSC09198

It all started because it occurred to me that it would be very practical to have a mini laptop to work on the libraries. DSC09194Olivia is my Dell Inspiron 6400, considered now a vintage model, but when I bought her, she was at the cutting edge of technology. I dare to say she’s old but actually she barely has four and a half years, even though in computer years it’s like having forty-five because, as everyone knows, they grow old faster than dogs. I bought her just before starting the fifth architectural design course in college, because from that moment on it was allowed to turn in projects made on Autocad and no matter how many drawing and painting classes I had taken before, I couldn’t wait to shake off the weight of pencils, markers and technical pens. I chose that model because my friend Juank, who is a systems engineer, had one and was very satisfied with it, so I trusted his experience in choosing my own. Juank called his laptop “Delia”, an adaptation on the brand, and he told me to name my computer as well. I remember the little pig from Ian Falconer’s tales and since then Olivia is my laptop and my wireless network at home.

Herminio can confirm this: I’m overprotective of Olivia. I couldn’t stand when someone typed on her too strongly, I tried to install on her as little as possible of suspicious programs and every time I used another person’s USB I prayed it didn’t have a virus. I think that the first time she had a very serious virus and the blue screen appeared when starting and had no choice but formatting it, it was a shock for me. Little naïve that I was, I took it to Dell’s official distributors in Tegucigalpa, because I didn’t trust Juank nor Herminio in doing that. The guys at Dell’s office charged me a lot just for installing Windows. The second time that fatidic blue screen appeared I found another office that also claimed to be Dell’s official distributors in Honduras and I took my laptop there so they could format it. Of course, I overpaid, but the worst was when I saw the internet history and it was filled with porn videos seen in youtube. I swore never to go to both of these places after that and since then Herminio taught me that behind the esoteric word “formatting” lies the simple task of installing three insignificant DVDs and press “Next” every now and then. But I always do it under his supervision, just in case. Once I almost died because the CD player stopped working and when I took it to some technician he opened it, looked at it, he cleaned the dust off and the player started working again. Needless to say, that episode only added to my list of obsessions to have my computer sparkling clean and prompted Herminio to tell me that if the way I treat Olivia is any indication of what my performance as a mother would be, those kids would be spoiled and overprotected.

When I bought Olivia I didn’t know much about computers and the poor thing had the grueling task of initiating me to that underworld. So far I used the desk computer at home, a cloned model with no recognizable brand, but I never had an interest in exploiting it to its fullest potential. Besides using it for the internet, the blog, downloading music and searching for song lyrics, I didn’t need it for much. But with Olivia a whole world opened up, and of course it included Autocad and Sketch Up, but now it would also have watching series and annoying my mother when playing World of Warcraft. Suddenly I started researching about what are the components on a laptop, what their use is and how they can be improved and not even two years went by when Olivia went from having one giga of RAM to two, the most she can aspire to. But even more than learning to choose a good processor or a good graphics card for my next laptop, I realized that now there are many details that I look in a computer now. For starters, weight. Olivia weights almost three kilos and the suitcase she came in weights as much as her. I never liked carrying her around for fear of bumps, dust and that the electric current wouldn’t be the right one and the fact that she was heavy didn’t exactly motivate me to show her the outside world. One day of carrying her gave me one week of back and shoulders pain. Then there’s the keyboard. Olivia has this generic keyboard with cracks between the keys, cracks where an incredible amount of dust gets in The first time I cleaned the keyboard with compressed air I couldn’t believe the amount of garbage, food and even dead insects that were there and I discovered that cleaning the keyboard with a makeup brush can be added to the list of things that can induce a meditative trance. Another thing I learned to appreciate in laptops is their appearance. Olivia is easy on the eyes, but she’s far from ever winning a beauty pageant. To begin with, she’s plastic and after four years of writing on her she now has the imprints of the places I put my hands when I type. Since she’s old school she doesn’t have webcam, Bluetooth or microphone, so trying to talk on Skype has always required dealing with an impressive amount of cords. And I never really got why Bluetooth is useful until I had a cellphone with which I could have saved myself the titanic task of connecting it to put things on it.

So I came to France and many times, when I worked on the libraries I thought about how useful it would be to have the computer there so as not to be carrying that much paper, to be able to copy things directly or to look for things on the information on the internet directly without having to wait to get home. But it’s impossible carrying Olivia around. The situation became worse when I started the internship because I had no other choice but to take her with me to the office every morning and bring her back at night. A few weeks later I bought a backpack to replace the suitcase, but that only helped distribute equally the pain between the two shoulders instead of just one. So the moment came when I started thinking about Olivia II. I quickly knew what I wanted: a super laptop with as much ram as possible, a great processor, a graphics card that allowed me to play WoW with the best quality make renders without Autocad without having fatal errors every five minutes, that was small and light and could be carried around everywhere didn’t exist for the budget I had. The best option I found was a Sony Vaio, beautiful but very expensive. And after consulting a panel of experts –my friends on Facebook- about which one is better, whether a Dell, an HP or a Vaio, most of them picked the Dell, everyone told me to get away from the HP, just one person voted for the Vaio and a funny one told me to get a Mac.

I’m going to say it: as a good snob, I would love to get a Mac. Before there was Autocad for Mac the question didn’t even arise, especially because my laziness is so great that I wouldn’t bother having a partition that allowed me to have both operating systems at the same time. But now that the program exists I went to the Apple store just to clear away this possibility. They have the prettiest designs of all the laptops I’ve ever seen and one day I dream about not having to worry about virus, but they’re extremely expensive. I’m not familiar with their operating system, but I don’t have any particular attachment towards Windows, the only thing I’ve been warned about is that pirating programs is much more difficult in Mac. And with the requirements I want I would have to win the lottery in order to be able to afford it; the best thing I could aspire to is their base model that barely surpasses Olivia’s specifications.

So it would be another Dell, not an Inspiron anymore, a model for noobs, but an XPS. And after many phone calls to Dell’s sales department, I’m writing from the new and improved Olivia, an XPS 15z. My original choice was the XPS 15, but its weight is not really competitive against my last computer, but I’ll admit that the price difference between these two models with the same characteristics gave me a lot to think about. In the end I had to give up the idea of a mini laptop because a small screen is not very good to work on plans and because they get very expensive when you ask for more than four GB of RAM. But a lot of elements aligned themselves that allowed me to pick the 15z in the end, like the fact that the funding presented itself but most of all, that I don’t want to deal with heavy and uncomfortable laptops. This time I tried to document myself before buying: I read many reviews online, I saw many youtube videos so as to get an idea of what the computer looks like because –and this is a shame and a huge inconvenience- Dell doesn’t have any stores and the models I was interested in were not available on retailers. In spite of all that, the computer turned out to be a little different than what I expected. DSC09191First, it has a weird thing in the joint between the laptop’s body and its screen, a sort of cylinder with cracks that is not too aesthetic and a part of the body is visible behind the screen. Also, I’m not a huge fan of the plastic strip that surrounds the body. It’s supposed to be the competition of the Macbook Pro, but this time I would have preferred that there was more imitation in the design. The keyboard has the keys separated and lightened, a very nice touch, but it lacks something that is unforgivable in my opinion: the integrated numeric pad that allows you to write certain characters with the Alt key. It was possible to ask for the Latin American QWERTY keyboard I’m used to, but I decided to take the French AZERTY so I could learn to write faster in that language. But this keyboard does not have the Spanish accents and without the numeric pad I can’t type the combinations to write those characters. I can accept the fact that I no longer have the buttons the first Olivia has to play movies or music, the Play, Stop, etc, but the lack of numeric pad is just absurd. It’s ok not to have it separated, but how difficult could it be to integrate it in the existing keys? How mediocre is that? I’ve been so mad that I’ve spent a whole week researching on the internet how to fix that and apparently my best option is to change the language of the keyboard because in any case, Dell’s computers no longer have the numeric pad. Besides that, the computer is nice, it has 8 GB de RAM, the processor is a Core i7 de 2.70 GHz and the graphics card is an Nvidia 525 M. Anyway, I haven’t started using her to make plans or renders but I hope I will do it soon. But I know what it’s ultimate challenge will be: WoW’s new expansion, “Mists of Pandaria”.

Today, since it’s Yanis’ birthday, I will allow myself to open the Pandora’s Box of yearning for all of those things that we shared when we lived in the same place. I have many good memories of the Multiplaza Mall at ten in the morning, particularly of the Espresso Americano right in front of Jetstereo. When we were on vacation or looking for a job we picked up the habit of having coffee in the Espresso. Why at ten in the morning? Because that’s the time Metromedia opened up and we generally went there after the coffee to suffer for all of the books and the magazines we couldn’t afford. Besides, because “Felicity” on Sony ended at ten, so it couldn’t be before that. When we had some extra money we grabbed cinnamon rolls with nuts from Cinnabon on the first floor and went up for the cappuccinos in the second. That was the glorious time when I didn’t know that you should only drink cappuccinos in the morning, before they taught me in Italian class that only ignorant tourists drink them in the afternoons. Who said knowing more makes you happier… One variant from that routine was going directly to the Espresso inside of the Metromedia of San Carlos, but that was when the magazines section was on the first floor and they let you grab one and read it while having coffee and not buy it later. I always read the American “Vogue”, “Cosmopolitan” or “Elle”, because they always cost more than a hundred lempiras. Yanis, since he is the smartest one in the couple, always grabbed one of those boring science, history or architecture magazines. I think that between a fashion magazine and an architecture one I will never pick the second one, but I can argue that I have been a woman for twenty-six years but on the other hand, I only have nine years of being involved in architecture. We stopped going to San Carlos because we realized that the Espresso there was more expensive (the iced coffee cost two lempiras more than in the rest of the city!) and then they renovated the place, made it smaller and it lost its charm.

My favorite day of the week has always been Friday. In fact, once I found a calendar of the year I was born and I was disappointed of not being born on a Friday, but a Thursday instead. Friday night has always been sacred for me; it’s the only moment in the week where I forbid myself any kind of academic or intellectual activity: I don’t study, I don’t work, I don’t even read on Friday night. They used to be just for eating and watching TV. I waited for them impatiently and in my old job we had a secret code with my colleagues where we just glanced at each other and began the “work break operation” in order to leave early. Yanis picked me up and we had to choose our dinner. We had our favorite menus: the first one was, of course, hamburgers from Ruby’s. Those are the best hamburgers I have ever tried in my life and God knows I’ve tried many of them: it’s one of the first things I order whenever I go. There were juicy, fatty, with bacon, mushrooms, weird cheeses, they toasted the bread with what must have been very-bad-for-the-arteries-butter, the meat had blood but not so much to look like “tartare de bœuf”. Even the fries were exquisite. One of my biggest sufferings in France is that no one here appreciates a good hamburger. I’ve tasted many “American style” ones and all of them seem to be uninspired Bigo’s imitations. Damn, now I’m craving Bigo’s. I don’t know when we discovered that Ruby’s had take-out service, but since then we didn’t even bother to get our clothes all smoked up in that restaurant where six out of ten waiters were absolutely pedantic. We went home to eat blissfully, of course, after spending at least an hour and a half in the Suyapa boulevard traffic.

Number two on our list has to be the chicken with mushrooms from Palacio Real. We are talking about a dish that cost, at that time, 200 lempiras, an exorbitant sum for Chinese food. But it was worth every penny: the mushrooms were so soft; the chicken so well-seasoned, the sauce was divine. People dream of chocolate fountains, I dream of fountains with that sauce and having pieces of onion and celery to dip in them.

In the first stages of our relationship we developed an unhealthy addiction to Kentucky’s popcorn chicken. It was inevitable: little pieces of deep-fried chicken in honey mustard sauce, how were we supposed to resist? That’s when I understood why a car is such an important instrument for men when it comes to seducing women. There was little I could say no to Yanis once he accustomed me to Kentucky’s drive-thru. But that was only when we were young and vigorous and unaware of the effects chicken fat had on our innocent bodies. And until the day we mixed them with red wine.

Now that I think of it, every good memory of our routine has to do with food. I should have anticipated that this was going to be a relationship where gastronomy would be that important since one of our first dates that took place in the Sushi Bar. Since Yanis travels every year to Miami he always came back talking about the many restaurants from various countries he had tasted and especially the sushi ones, in which he had become an expert. At the time I had never tasted it before since there were not that many sushi restaurants in Tegucigalpa and those that existed were very expensive. It was my birthday and he wanted to invite me to sushi. I wanted to look relaxed, as a woman of the world, totally cool, but I was secretly anguished over eating raw fish on the first time going out with this very cute guy I really liked. I’m not a fan of seafood, to the point where I have fried chicken on the best paella restaurant in Valle de Ángeles, a sacrilege my parents have considered disowning me for. We ordered the “boat”, an array of many types of rolls and nigiris. I ordered a Coke so as to have something familiar to swallow all of that. The Sushi Bar is a very elegant restaurant, tiny, cozy, but super snob, where the waiters are insufferable and the menu even has this long essay about the origins of sushi and what you should not do while eating it. It’s ridiculous but the food is very good. It’s just that this first time I was overwhelmed and nervous. The only thing I asked Yanis was not to tell me what anything was so as to not have prejudices. Everything was going well, I don’t even remember what the hell we were talking about, I was more focused in swallowing without disgust and it seemed I was going to be successful until I put in my mouth something unidentified. In fact, something my body must have identified immediately as shrimp. The urge to vomit was almost instant. I think I went to the bathroom, I don’t remember, there’s this whole shame-induced blackout. I asked him what this horrendous thing was and he confirmed my suspicions but luckily that was the only thing I didn’t like and now I’m one of those people who has to refrain from buying raw salmon at the supermarket to eat it directly thinking is cheap sushi.

So Yanis, this is for many birthdays more and so we taste many more restaurants together.

DSC09079DSC09080DSC09081DSC09084DSC09085DSC09091DSC09092DSC09094DSC09095DSC09096DSC09098DSC09097 DSC09099DSC09101DSC09106DSC09110 DSC09116DSC09117 DSC09120 DSC09122 The great “sacrifice” I had to do in order to go to my concert last week was spend a whole day in Paris. And what a coincidence, my lovely sister in law was in town, with her sister and her mother. An excellent opportunity to meet them, catch up and visit the town. Since they are already professional tourists that have toured many cities across Europe in the last weeks they found this site about an association that offers free guided visits in many towns. We made our tour with a very nice girl who explained to us, in Spanish, the history behind many of the main monuments, as well as funny anecdotes about them. The visit lasted about four hours and in the end you just have to tip as much as you want and I must say I was very satisfied with everything. Especially with the fact that in the end they took us to a very good and cheap restaurant, a combination not easy to find for us temporary passengers that have no time to get to know the city very well.
Paris received us with some clouds and some wind that, compared to the cold and snow last December, felt like a warm summer. And since I got to be more outside, I enjoyed this time even more, but as always, I leave with the feeling that I have to go back later on, that I still have so much to visit.

Wednesday night I was sitting at the theater where a few hours later Tori Amos and I remembered when I started listening to her. The first album I bought, after hearing just a few of her songs was “To Venus and back”, which has two CDs, one of previously unreleased songs and another one live. At the time I didn’t know much about her and since I hadn’t had the opportunity to go to many concerts, listening to live records didn’t particularly excite. But since it was the time before generalized downloading and ordering from the internet, that record was my only way of getting to know Tori’s previous eras. It happened that not only did I love the CD, but many of its songs, once I got a hold of all of her discography, I preferred in their live versions than in the studio ones. DSC09129 As a good geek I came very early to the theater and I was the first person to get in the room. The place was beautiful, it had a big vault and it was decorated with Greco-Roman sculpture reproductions. I was consumed with emotion but unfortunately the music in the background was a horrible and depressing country group. People started coming in; at first couples of girls, lonely guys and suddenly the first row started filling up with a group of people that looked like the hardcore crazy fans. I was in the third row, in the seat next to the hallway and I thought I was going to have just one person next to me, but in the end, to my left, in a folding chair, was a seated a woman who came with one of the fans from the first row, but she was visibly not a fan herself, and was probably made of stone since she didn’t clap, not even once, not for the opening artist, nor Tori, not even for the string quartet that accompanied her. To my right was seated an old couple of Italians. I pity them all: I was going through a mystical ecstasy, clapping, standing up with everyone else, taking photos with my amateur camera and on the other hand the woman was evidently bored, annoyed and not at all moved, and the couple was so calm, even though they were surrounded by all those freaks, but well, even they took some pictures with their phone.

The opening artist, Mark Hole, played a couple of songs, mostly ballads, about how five months ago he broke up with her girlfriend Zooey. I know most Tori’s songs are about her personal life and for many years she didn’t have any problems with explaining the fact that she sang about her ex boyfriends, her Methodist minister father or her difficulties in having children, but maybe because I’ve never heard of that guy before I found his confessions out of place and inappropriate. Besides, I don’t think anyone in the room was really sorry for him; we’re in Europe after all. But he sang ok, I didn’t care much for his music, maybe because I was not there to see him or because I found it pretentious that he sold his album even more expensive than Tori’s deluxe edition CD.

Fortunately Tori didn’t take long to appear onstage. For most of the songs she was joined by a string quartet called “A million of shades” (accidental acronym for Amos?) which she recorded the new album with, but there was no drums, guitars or anything else. I knew that Tori tries to alternate between touring with a full band and touring solo, but I had the hope this time she would do it with the band. The string quartet was a good addition though.DSC09136The concert started with “Shattering sea”, the first song out of her latest record, very appropriate for starting up because it’s very intense. It continued with “Way down”, from “Boys for Pele”, something I found inevitable when we take into account the parallels between both albums. “Pele” is also about romantic break-ups and fifteen years later “Night of hunters” is also about the same theme, but now from a different point of view. Now it’s not about a break-up the singer has experienced directly, but about a fictional character that sees her relationship dissolve in one night and decides to take the reins of her own life. A lot has been written about how the album is inspired but the works of classic composers such as Schübert or Satie, hence her decision to play live with the string quartet. So if anything, “Night of hunters” is a “Boys for Pele” for a new generation, or a look back into Tori’s past and how she has overcome it. It’s even metaphoric the fact that her daughter sings in the record, as a person that helps the leading character in dealing with her obstacles.

If I understood correctly the logic behind the song selection it was about mixing slow and intense songs with lighter and funnier ones such as “Mr. Zebra” and “Programmable soda”. They are not her finest works but they were nice interludes. It was very funny when she started playing the first notes from a song and she asked the audience if they knew which song it was. They started yelling some things and Tori said “You have no idea what this is, right?” It was Joni Mitchell’s “River”. Noobs. DSC09131 My favorite moments of the night was when she played “Cruel” and “Siren”, the first one because she replaced the electric keyboards in “Cruel” with strings and the second song is excellent but it’s not well known and I never thought I would hear it live. When she finished what we thought would be the last song and got up, a lot of people from the audience jumped out of their seats and reached the stage. I was a weird moment, but apparently it’s normal in her concerts. No one returned to their seats and we waited for the first encore that was an original song of the string quartet that made me want to dust off my old Apocalyptica albums.DSC09132 To be honest, there were too many ballads; I didn’t get the winter recurring theme (she played two songs from her Christmas album that has never caught my attention, “River” starts with some notes from “Jingle all the way” and she ended the concert with “Winter”), especially since autumn has just started and I would have preferred more cheery and popular songs. I always say it’s such a shame that I didn’t get to meet her when she was in her “Pele” and “Choirgirl” eras because they were, the most aggressive ones it’s true, but also the ones in which her concerts were more intense, she sang her heart out and you could feel the energy, as if she was going through an exorcism onstage. Since then, even for the stronger songs, she sings in a more restrained manner, more decently, as if she doesn’t want to wake the demons that tormented before. I understand that those are stages you go through and later leave behind, but it’s a part of being a performer to do justice to those songs and go back to the point where they were conceived. The concert was lovely, but I would have given anything to hear “Cornflake girl”, “Father Lucifer” or “Playboy mommy” live. And if she really wanted to lighten the mood “Wednesday” is far much better than “Programmable soda”. Besides, I love “River” and it’s probably the cover that comes the closest to the “Night of hunters” theme, but “Nevermind” is celebrating its twenty year anniversary, as “Little earthquakes” will soon be: wouldn’t it have been better to sing “Smells like teen spirit”? I may sound unhappy with the concert, and yes, I would have changed a lot of things, but I probably know the artist’s career too much and had too high expectations. I’m aware that it would have been very hard to please me, but I’m happy that I went to the concert at all; I would have deeply regretted it not being there. Besides, whenever I want to imagine what a good Tori Amos concert could be, I have the songs to do it. DSC09134
